Director of Public Health Annual Report 2016 and additional tables

The eighth Director of Public Health (DPH) Annual Report focuses on health inequalities in Northern Ireland.

The health of people in Northern Ireland is improving. However, the improvements are not distributed equally across all areas of our population. Individuals living in the most deprived areas of the region are at higher risk of many health conditions and have shorter life expectancies than those in the least deprived areas. These inequalities in health are unfair, and are avoidable.

The DPH report presents examples of interventions and programmes that are currently being funded by the Public Health Agency across each of the three public health domains - health improvement, service development/screening and health protection - to understand and reduce inequalities in health.

On page 48, the report also lists core tables for 2015 relating to key statistical data, including population, birth and death rates, mortality by cause, life expectancy, immunisation and screening. The PDF of the core tables is available here.

In addition to the core tables, a specific set of tables relating to health inequalities is published alongside this report. This set of tables is also available as a PDF below.
